Fine Gael TD for Cork South West stated that the people of West Cork have a chance to make history on Saturday November 10th by delivering a resounding Yes vote to the Children’s Referendum.
“We all have an opportunity on Saturday November 10th to make a real difference by recognising children as citizens in their own right for the first time ever. This Referendum is about protecting children from abuse and neglect. It’s about supporting families by re-affirming and underpinning early intervention and family support services, to protect children in their homes. And finally, it’s about treating all children equally in adoption.
“As the Taoiseach said at the launch of the Fine Gael campaign for a Yes vote, this proposed amendment to the Constitution does not give power away. It proposes to use power – always ethically, professionally and justly – to protect and uphold the rights, the safety, the dignity and innocence of children. Some people opposed to this Referendum claim that it will facilitate a power grab on behalf of the State; this couldn’t be further from the truth. It is quite simply about protecting vulnerable children from harm, and giving every child the best chance to live in a happy and safe home.
Fine Gael Cork South West TD Noel Harrington has today (Friday) said that Fine Gael wants to make sure that people have all of the information they need to cast their vote in the Children’s Referendum on Saturday November 10th. Deputy Harrington was speaking after the Minister for Children, Frances Fitzgerald TD, launched a new online magazine about the Referendum, which is available through Fine Gael’s Facebook page.
“It’s essential that we provide people with all of the information they need to make an informed vote in the Children’s Referendum on Saturday, November 10th. This is one of the most important referenda to be held in the history of the State, and I am encouraging everyone across West Cork to get out and vote Yes to help protect vulnerable children from abuse and neglect.
Fine Gael Cork South West TD Noel Harrington has welcomed the advance payment of €21,301,474.60 to farmers in Cork as part of the Single Farm Payment (SFP) scheme. The payments have been brought forward from December to October following representations made by Minister Coveney to the EU Commission on the basis of the difficulties being faced by farmers as a result of the poor summer weather.
Over €545 million has so far been paid to farmers nationally through the Single Farm Payment. The balance of the payments will be made from 1st December. €1.3 billion will be paid out in total this year under the scheme.
Health Innovation Hub Demonstrator Project launched by Ministers in UCC
A Health Innovation Hub Demonstrator Project that will develop products such as a paperless GP referral system and a mattress steriliser was launched in UCC today (Friday) by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD and the Minister for Health Dr James Reilly TD.
The Project, which will bring together the health system, enterprise and academia in an environment where new ideas can be developed and grown, is a key measure under the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs 2012. Its implementation is an important example of the cross-Government cooperation that the Action Plan delivers.
