€17,200 sanctioned by Minister McGinley to carry out Improvement Works on the Slipway that serves Oileán Baoi, Co Cork
Minister of State in the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley T.D., has sanctioned to-day (10/5/2012) a grant of €17,200 to assist Cork County Council in carrying out improvement works on the mainland slipway that serves Oileán Baoi. The works to be carried out will include levelling, a new deck and restoration of the sea wall. The County Council will foot the remainder of the costs of the work to be carried out.
The ban this year on transporting livestock on the cable car has created difficulties and this restoration work is seen as part-solution to that issue. The Minister of State said that he is pleased that his Department is in a position to assist the County Council in completing this project. “I understand the difficulties created by the ban on transporting livestock on the cable car and I’m pleased that my Department is in a position to provide the island community with this assistance,” he said.
